Every year around this time, I find myself daydreaming of weekends spent at the beach, and mornings where I don’t have to freeze my butt off while driving to work, because I forgot to warm up my car. The snow is dirty, the weather is dreary and sometimes it is so cold, that the air hurts your face. The holidays are over, and life is a little bit less busy.
It doesn’t help that this year, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, and we are doomed to another six weeks of winter. Even if he is only 39% accurate.
Below are 5 things you can do to help ditch the winter blues these next couple of months.
Get a fake tan…the safe way
While laying in a tanning bed can be a relaxing way to get some vitamin D, and a summer glow at the same time, skin cancer is a real threat. Instead, try picking up sunless tanner. While some brands can take practice applying ( No one intentionally wants to look like an Oompa Loompa), they are a safe alternative to worshiping the tanning bed. My favorite is Rodan+ Fields Foaming Sunless Tanner. I also like the brands listed below.
Jergens Natural Glow 7.5 oz. $9.99 available atCVS
Tarte Brazilliance PLUS+ Self-Tanner $39.00 available at Sephora
Plan a long weekend
Plan a long weekend out of town. Go to a hotel with an indoor water park, like Great Wolf Lodge. If there are no hotels close to you that have indoor water parks, go to one with a normal pool and hot tub. If a weekend getaway is out of your price range, check your local rec center to see if they have a pool you can go to for the day.
Pick up a new hobby
Learn something new. Take a pottery class, or learn to knit. Start to write, or read a book. There are YouTube videos that can teach you simple things like learning to crochet.
Whether you take a yoga or kick boxing class, or do sit ups and cardio in your living room, exercising is a good way to release endorphin’s ( chemicals your body makes to help you feel happy) to lift your mood. Not only will exercising help make you happier, it will help you get in shape. You can loose that extra five pounds that you gained over the holidays and help get your body beach ready!
Volunteer at your local food pantry or homeless shelter. There are always ways to help your community. Here are some websites that show ways you can volunteer in your area.
